Google was said to launch the new Android Wear 2.0 last fall, but the release was delayed due to “quality requirements,” which means that the company intends to bring significant changes to the OS. The latest information reveals that Android Wear 2.0 will arrive on Thursday, February 9.

Renowned leakster Evan Blass told everyone on Twitter to mark February 9 on their calendars as the day when Google will launch Android Wear 2.0. This post confirms previous reports which said that Google would announce the new Wear 2.0 in early February.

Just last week, Google informed some developers through the Google Play Store that Wear 2.0 would arrive in early February and they should start publishing their apps in the store. The notification also revealed that the new OS would include a number of exciting new features, like an on-watch Play store tool for helping users discover apps from their smartwatches, rather than accessing their phones.

Google might announce its two new smartwatches

Android Wear 2.0 is also expected to include support for Google Assistant and Android Pay, though that remains to be seen. It would make sense for smartwatches to receive updates to Android Wear 2.0 right after the release, but that has yet to be confirmed. Last month, Google showcased a number of applications that will include support for the new OS, especially since Wear 2.0 will bring standalone apps that work both on Android and iOS phones paired with Wear devices.

There’s a high chance that Google might also announce its two smartwatches during the February 9 release. The tech giant has long been rumored to be working on two smartwatches with Android Wear 2.0 support.

The watches won’t be Pixel branded, but they will feature a sleek and slim design, as previous renders have shown. One of the smartwatches is said to have a diagonal of 42mm and a single side button. The second will be more advanced with a heart rate sensor, GPS and LTE. Needless to say, we’re quite excited about Google’s release.
