Google has just announced the new Android stats for October, and as expected, Lollipop continues to rise even if just by a small percentage.

Some of you might remember that Google confirmed last month that Android Lollipop has already been installed on 21% of devices. Well, it looks like this month Lollipop has increased to 23.5%, which is only 2.5% more in comparison with last month.

According to the distribution numbers published by Google, Android KitKat remains the most popular operating system on the market with 38.9%, followed by Android Jelly Bean with 30.2%.

However, it's worth mentioning that there are three Android Jelly Bean versions that contribute to the 30% amount: Android 4.1.x (11.4%), Android 4.2.x (14.5%), and Android 4.3 (4.3%).

The same goes for Android Lollipop, as Google has announced that Android 5.0 is now on 15.6% devices, while Android 5.1 Lollipop has been installed on 7.9% devices.

It's too early for Android 6.0 Marshmallow to make an appearance

The least used Android version is Froyo, which refuses to disappear. The old version of Android is still listed with 0.2% market share. Next in line is Android 4.0.3-4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich with 3.8% share.

Last but not least, Android 2.3.3-2.3.7 Gingerbread is accounted for 3.8% market share, which is 0.3% lower than previous month.

The data collected during a 7-day period ending on October is at the base of the statistics. Keep in mind that any versions with less than 0.1% distribution are not shown in the list.

It's also worth mentioning that this data has been gathered from the new Google Play Store app, which supports Android 2.2 and above, so devices powered by older versions are not included.

Android Lollipop is likely to continue the rising trend in the next couple of months until Marshmallow gets installed on more devices, which is likely to happen beginning next year.
