Google has just revealed distribution numbers for Android, and for the first time since it started to offer this type of statistics, Marshmallow appears among the other versions of the platform.

According to Google, any version of Android with less than 0.1% distribution is not shown in this statistic, which means Android 6.0 Marshmallow made it past this threshold.

But let's see how good Marshmallow is doing in comparison with other Android versions and what Google can do to increase its market share.

First of all, Marshmallow is not the least used Android version available on the market, as that title now belongs to Android 2.2 Froyo with 0.2% market share.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow comes in second with merely 0.1% more, as Google reports the new version of its mobile platform is now on 0.3% of the devices used in Google Play Store.

Keep in mind that Google confirmed the data that appears in this infographics was collected during a 7-day period ending on November 2.

Nexus devices put Marshmallow on sixth place most used Android versions

Now that we've seen which are the least used Android versions, let's see what the top dogs in the field are. Well, it looks like Android 4.4 KitKat remains the absolute winner when it comes to market share with 37.8%, followed by Android Jelly Bean with 29%.

Android Lollipop is only third with 25.6% market share while Android Gingerbread and Android Ice Cream Sandwich come on fourth and fifth places with 3.8% and 3.3% market share, respectively.

Since there's only one smartphone that comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box (HTC One A9), it's quite interesting that Marshmallow managed to get into the top 7 most used Android versions.

It looks like the Nexus series has a large audience among Android users, which most owed to the fact that these are usually the first to receive a major software update.
