The preview build might be released for Google OEMs too

Google has yet to name its next version of Android, but it’s pretty clear that the search giant plans to launch it in the next couple of months.

We’re just one month away from Google I/O, the place where we expect the company to provide fans with more details on the so-called Android N platform.

For the time being, an Android N preview build is available for Nexus devices. However, it appears that Google plans to expand the beta program to OEM partners, which means those who own other branded smartphones might be able to try out Android N.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling what company will jump on the Android N bandwagon first, but there’s a high chance that Motorola will be among the first companies to offer this feature to its customers.

Motorola, Samsung, LG might be among the first on the list

The information is confirmed within the code for Android N, which has recently been uncovered by a Reddit user. Inside the code, there’s a line that says: “accompanying Android Beta program for consumers, starting later in the preview -- more supported devices, including devices from OEM partners -- seamless OTAs for your devices, from initial release to final N release without flashing.”

Obviously, Motorola doesn’t have to be the only OEM that allows users to install Android N preview on their smartphones. Samsung, HTC, and LG might want to provide this feature to its customers as well.

Considering that Android Beta program is extremely limited, even for Nexus devices since only the most recent ones are compatible with Android N, it would be quite an achievement for Google to offer access to this testing program to OEM partners.

The more people test Android N on different devices, the better the new platform should perform at launch. If you have a non-Nexus flagship smartphone, there’s a high chance that you will be given access to Android N preview build, so stay tuned for more on this one.
