After launching the Android August 2017 security patch for supported Pixel and Nexus devices the other day, it looks like Google updated the Android Dashboard page to inform us the relative number of devices running a certain Android version.

According to the new statistics published by Google for its Linux-based mobile operating system, it would appear that Android 7 Nougat adoption is slow this summer as it only grew 2 percent since last month, from 11.5% to 13.5%, with Android 7.0 running on 12.6% devices and Android 7.1 on only 1.2% devices.

The fun fact is that Android 6.0 Marshmallow remains king in August 2017, and it grew in the last month to 32.3% from 31.8% in July 2017. On the second place, there's still Android 5 Lollipop, which appears to have dropped in usage to 29,2% from 30,1% for both 5.0 and 5.1 versions.

On the other hand, Android KitKat (versions 4.3 and 4.4) usage remains unchanged to 17.1%. Same goes for Android Ice Cream (version 4.0.3), Sandwich (version 4.0.4) and Android Gingerbread (versions 2.3.3 - 2.3.7), but Android Jelly Bean (version 4.1.x and 4.2.x) usage has dropped 1.6 percent, from 8.1% to 6.5%.

OpenGL ES 3.1 usage grows to 16.8%

The new statistics provided by Google for the Android OS also show the relative number of devices that support a particular version of OpenGL ES. While the OpenGL ES 3.1 usage grew to 16.8% from 16.5%, OpenGL ES 2.0 usage dropped to 37.6% from 38.4%, and OpenGL ES 3.0 is now used on 45.6% of devices.

This data was collected by Google during a 7-day period ending today, August 8, 2017, from the devices that visited the Google Play store in the last month. For more statistics, don't hesitate to check out the Android Dashboard page, and don't forget to update your Android device to the latest available version.
