After pushing the latest Android 8.0 Oreo software update to its HTC U11 unlocked units a few days ago, HTC today released the Android Oreo update for HTC U11 Life users too.

HTC's VP of Product Management Mo Versi announced just a few moments ago on Twitter that owners of unlocked HTC U11 Life smartphones can now also install the Android 8.0 Oreo mobile operating system on their devices. Android Oreo is being seeded to HTC U11 Life users as an OTA (Over-the-Air) update.

Again, please note that only unlocked HTC U11 Life handsets are receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update, which could take a while to arrive for all users around the globe. It's an incremental update, so if you're not seeing it at this very moment, you should try again in a few hours or the next days.

HTC U11 Life is a waterproof, mid-range smartphone

HTC U11 Life is the newest member of the U11 family of Android-powered smartphones, unveiled by HTC earlier this month as a mid-range device that features a waterproof and dust-resistant design. The device is powered by HTC U11 Edge Sense to allow users to squeeze the phone's lower sides to access certain options.

It follows on the design patterns and innovations introduced by its bigger brother, HTC U11, and it's powered by Android 7.1 Nougat operating system by default. But users can now update to Android 8.0 Oreo, which introduces new features like Picture-in-Picture (PiP), Android instant apps, notification dots, background limiter, and over 60 new emoji.

While Google plans to release the Android 8.1 Oreo maintenance and bugfix update to its supported Pixel and Nexus devices, the rest of the Android smartphone manufacturers appear to struggle to bring the Android 8.0 Oreo software to their devices. According to official statistics, Android Oreo runs only on 0.3 percent of devices worldwide.
