HMD official confirms all models will get the Oreo

HMD Global has recently confirmed that all Nokia smartphones powered by Android will receive the upgrade to version 8.0 Oreo, including the low-end Nokia 3.

All Nokia smartphones launched under HMD’s umbrella are running Android 7.0 Nougat, and with Oreo announced earlier this year, it makes sense for these devices to receive the upgrade as well.

But in the case of the Nokia 3, which is just a low-end budget smartphone running Android, there were uncertainties as to whether it has the necessary hardware to handle Oreo. And as it turns out it, it does, with the upgrade to be shipped to this more affordable as well at some point in the future.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global, confirmed in a tweet that “all of our smartphones will upgrade to Oreo, Nokia 3 included.” No specifics were provided as to when this is expected to happen, but we expect the first Nokia models to get the upgrade to Oreo by the end of the year.

Next version of Android to be supported on most models

As reported by NPU, HMD promised to ship updates to its Nokia phones for at least two years, which means that even the next version of Android is likely to be supported on most of its devices – though in this case, supporting the Nokia 3 could be a challenge.

Nokia smartphones come with a stock version of Android that received only small tweaks here and there, and this should reduce the amount of work that HMD needs to do in order to prepare every new version of the operating system for its devices.

It remains to be seen when the company starts the rollout of Android 8 to its devices, but in the meantime, the company keeps shipping feature and security updates for the existing models, so make sure you install all of them to get the most out of your smartphones.
