Google has just announced a brand new Android update that further closes the gap between Nougat and the next version of the operating system. Android 7.1.2 Nougat is an incremental update that focuses on refinements, so don't expect any new features for the time being.

The Mountain View company has also stated that the final version of Android 7.1.2 Nougat will be released in the coming months, but the first beta version is going out today.

Taking a look at the devices listed as being compatible with the new Android 7.1.2 Nougat, one phone and one tablet seem to have been skipped and will not be getting the update at all: Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

The good news is that while these Nexus devices will remain on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and will not receive any major OS updates, they will still get Google's security patches that are released on a monthly basis.

Five Pixel and Nexus devices are getting the update starting today

According to Google, the first Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta build is now rolling out to the following devices: Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus Player, and Pixel C. For those of you who own the Nexus 6P, Google has announced that a beta version of Android 7.1.2 will be released soon.

As far as the changes go, the update contains bug fixes and optimizations for the most part, but Google has confirmed that a “small number of enhancements for carriers and users” will be implemented too.

If you want to get a taste of Android 7.1.2 Nougat before the final version gets released to everyone, you can enroll in the Android Beta Program if you own one of the supported devices listed earlier.

It's also worth mentioning that Google also released the factory images for Android 7.1.2 Nougat, so you won't have to wait for the update to arrive, you can just simply flash them on your device.
