Google's release of the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat is surely one the biggest events of the year, but the unveiling date is still unknown. The Mountain View-based giant introduced the final Android N Developer Preview a while ago, and the company also revealed the name of the upcoming Android OS, together with its traditional statue.

New information has surfaced showing that Canadian carrier Telus pins the launch of Android 7.0 Nougat on August 22, as the date when Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P will be receiving the update. The Canadian carrier will be delivering the software update for the two smartphone models on Monday.

The information has been found on Telus Forum and has been posted and updated just recently. The chart also mentions Nexus 5, 6, BlackBerry Priv, and Samsung Alpha, which will receive security updates soon.

What's interesting is that the Nexus 6 isn't listed among the devices that will receive the software update to Android 7.0 Nougat. The Nexus 6 did receive all five Developer Previews and should surely be among the first smartphones to get the update to the new Android OS.

In addition, about one month has passed since the final Developer Preview 5 was released, which means that the official debut is due to happen soon. Moreover, LG has already started a preview program for the G5 and is preparing to announce the V20 on September 6, as the first non-Nexus smartphone to run Android 7.0 Nougat.

Telus says the date can be subject to change

However, the post on Telus forums mentions that all dates are approximate and subject to change. Whatever the case, it's safe to say that Android 7.0 Nougat will be arriving in the coming weeks and will bring the two upcoming Nexus smartphones as well.

HTC is currently working with Google on developing the upcoming Nexus Sailfish and Nexus Marlin, both running Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and coming with some new features, like a redesigned home button and app drawer icon.
