Nougat comes with over 250 major features

Rumors from a few days ago stated that Google would begin global rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat today and it seems that they were right. Google has just announced that it began global rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat to all Nexus devices and Pixel C.

On a post on the official Android Blog, Google developers stated that Android 7.0 Nougat comes with over 250 major features and highlighted some of them. Back in March, Google provided developers with the opportunity to take a sneak peek at Android N, a first for any new Android version.

Google stated that Android 7.0 Nougat is more personal, in the sense that it comes with more ways for users to customize their phones. It comes with expanded emoji, Android now contains over 1,500 different emoji, including 72 new ones.

In addition, Android 7.0 Nougat allows users to arrange tiles in any way that they wish, including shortcuts for Bluetooth, WiFi and flashlight. It comes with multi-locale support, which would let apps provide content based on settings set on the smartphone, including browsers to show results in those languages.

Android 7.0 Nougat comes with bundled notifications

Android 7.0 Nougat comes with multi-window support, which allows users to run two apps side-by-side and the windows are resizable. As expected, Direct Reply is also available in the new OS version and users can switch between recently used apps with just the tap of a button using the Quick Switch feature. Bundled notifications feature is also included in the final version. Doze mode has been improved with Android 7.0 Nougat, the device can drop into lower power usage when the user is on the move.

Android 7.0 Nougat comes with support for VulkanTM for advanced 3D rendering and Daydream. Back in May, Google did announce that Android 7.0 Nougat will be focused on security also and the release seems to confirm just that. Android 7.0 Nougat is able to install updates in the background and use file-based encryption. Direct Boot will allow users to startup their devices faster and run apps securely.

Google announced that the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One), together with devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program, will receive the final version. They will receive an over the air software update in the coming weeks.
