Samsung has already confirmed the Android 7.0 Nougat update for a couple of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The Galaxy S6 family is among those devices that should be upgraded to Nougat sometime in the first half of the year.

Although Samsung hasn't yet announced an exact release date for these updates, it looks like the Galaxy S6, and all its variations, are next in line to get Android 7.0 Nougat after the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge flagships.

The good news is we have information that confirms Samsung is almost done with Android 7.0 Nougat for the Galaxy S6 family. Wi-Fi Alliance recently certified a Samsung Galaxy S6 running Android 7.0 Nougat, which suggests that the update is close to being released.

The Galaxy S6 with model number SM-G920V has been spotted at Wi-Fi Alliance, but for those who aren't familiar with these code names, this is the version that US-based carrier Verizon is selling.

Since carrier-branded Galaxy S6 units are already eligible for the update, we expect the rollout for the unlocked versions to start any moment now.

We're not sure whether or not Samsung will kick off a beta program before releasing the stable version, but if it happens, it won't last long.

The fact that the Galaxy S6 device running Android 7.0 Nougat has already been certified by a regulatory authority tells us that Samsung won't be running any beta programs and that the update will be deployed in stages.

We expect a small percentage of Galaxy S6 owners to start receiving the update in the coming weeks, followed soon by a larger number of devices.

Samsung also confirmed that the Galaxy Note 5 would be getting Android 7.0 Nougat too, along with other devices like the Galaxy A3 and A8. We can safely assume that the Galaxy S2 Tab will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat as well.
