14 DAY TRIAL // Most of the carriers in the US have already released OTA updates of Android 7.0 Nougat for the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, and now it’s time for the update to arrive to unlocked versions of the phone too. Samsung has made the update available via Smart Switch.
Owners of Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (SM-G935U) from the US can finally update their smartphones to Android 7.0 Nougat via Smart Switch. Sadly, the update isn’t yet available OTA and users who don’t want to wait will have to install it manually.
In order to do that, Samsung Smart Switch must be installed on a Windows/Mac computer. The next step involves connecting the phone, launching the app and getting the notification for the Nougat update. It’s worth mentioning that Smart Switch must also be installed on the smartphone from the Play store. The update has a size of about 2.2GB and users should make sure that their device has over 50% battery before installing the update.
Android 7.0 Nougat for unlocked Galaxy S7 will soon roll out in the US
Sadly, the update appears to be available only for the unlocked Galaxy S7 edge, while Android 7.0 Nougat for unlocked Galaxy S7 units should arrive soon. Samsung listed some changes that the update brings, including new UX and various performance modes.
In addition, the update provides improved usability of a number of features, including notifications, Quick Settings button, Multi window and many more. Samsung also mentions improved settings menu and Always On Display feature, together with the addition of Samsung Pass. Android 7.0 Nougat also brings improved doze mode and new performance modes.
Samsung also urges users to update their Gear IconX wireless earbuds to the latest software before updating the Galaxy S7 edge, but the company didn’t provide an actual reason as to why this is recommended. Perhaps, there are some incompatibility issues between the earbuds and the phone if the update process isn’t conducted in the manner that Samsung advised.
