If you’ve been anxious to install the newly released Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for Sony Xperia Z5, then you should know that it’s highly recommended that you upgrade using Sony PC Companion.

In case you haven’t yet updated and plan on downloading it via Wi-Fi or mobile network, your Xperia Z5 might be affected by a major issue that will probably force you to factory-reset the smartphone.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Sony Xperia Z5 family wasn’t released too long ago, but many of those who upgraded claim they can’t open Google Play Store after updating.

Sony’s support forums are full of complaints coming from users affected by this issue, and the only solution seems a factory reset of the device.

“As soon as I updated to Marshmallow, I keep getting the ‘Unfortunately Google Play store has stopped...’ and the message keeps coming up every 5 seconds. I tried clearing the cache, deleting data, uninstalling, disabling the app, force closing, signing out of google and back on. Does not work. I keep getting the pop up non-stop and it happened as SOON as it updated to Marshmallow,” says one user.

Use Sony PC Companion to repair your Xperia Z5

If you've already upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and suddenly your Google Play Store application has stopped working, you could try repairing your Xperia Z5 using Sony PC Companion. Do no try to uninstall Google Play Store application because you might run into even bigger issues.

On the other hand, some users have found that the issue completely vanishes away on its own upon rebooting the smartphones a couple of times. However, this solution might not be 100% valid and might depend on how seriously the issue affects your phone.

Unfortunately, there are still quite a lot of Xperia Z5 owners who haven’t managed to solve the issue after using the suggestion made by Sony and did a factory reset of their smartphone.

Hopefully, the Japanese company will provide a better solution for the problem, one that will not involve a factory reset or wipe everything from the smartphone. If you own the Xperia Z5 and captured Android 6.0 Marshmallow, let us know in the comments section whether or not you’ve been affected by this issue.
