Along with the unveil of Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P, Google also promised that the next version of Android would be deployed to previous Nexus devices starting this week.

True to its promise, Google has just announced that Android 6.0 Marshmallow factory images are now available for Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9.

This means that, if you go ahead and flash these images on one of the Nexus devices mentioned earlier, you could be one of the first to run Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Of course, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P are the first smartphones to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box, but they won't be available until later this month.

Anyway, according to Google, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will soon get the over-the-air software update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Keep in mind though that Nexus update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow occurs in stages and some carriers will receive the update later than others.

Get loads of new features and improvements

Google has also highlighted some of the most important new features and improvements implemented onto Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which you should expect to get on your Nexus device as soon as you update.

For example, the Now on Tap is a feature introduced with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and provides users with the most relevant info. “Say you receive an email about meeting a friend at the Central Park Zoo. Just tap and hold on the home button, and Now on Tap will assist you by providing links to information about the zoo, shortcuts to relevant apps and even suggest a calendar entry for the date, time and location,” says Google in a blog post.

Also, Android 6.0 Marshmallow should offer a longer-lasting battery life thanks to a new feature called Doze. With this new feature, the Android device will be able to recognize when it's idle and automatically goes into sleep mode to conserve power.

If you don't want to wait for Google to push the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to your Nexus device, you can download the factory images right now.
