ASUS isn’t one of the manufacturers that were quick to adopt the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for their slew of devices. Some of its Zenfones had to wait months on end before receiving the update, but luckily, the Taiwanese manufacturer is a bit more careful as far as its current flagship device is concerned.

ASUS unveiled the Zenfone 2 back at CES 2015 as the first phone to arrive with 4GB of RAM. The device originally shipped out with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box, but now ASUS is ready to update the phone to the latest OS version available, Android 5.1.

Well, the folks of The Android Soul claim that a Zenfone 2 owner using the ASUS Support app has been able to get confirmation that the company is actively working on the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its Zenfone lineup.

ASUS will begin updating the low-end model first

This is extremely good news for those of you who are holding onto a Zenfone 2. But as you might know, ASUS released a plethora of variants of the flagship. Well, the new report reveals that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the cheapest version, the Z550EL, is currently in the final testing stages, so we can speculate that it will become available to us shortly.

The base Zenfone 2 model comes with a 5.5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution (267ppi) and draws life from an Intel Atom Z3560 processor fitted with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

It’s very nice to see that ASUS plans to start the update process with the entry-level Zenfone 2. It’s also pretty clear that the high-end Zenfone 2 will also get the same treatment at some point.

The premium model features a 5.5-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and draws life from an Intel Atom Z3580 chipset fitted with 4GB of RAM and 16/32/64GB of internal storage.

As any other update, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Zenfone 2 lineup will probably happen in stages, gradually, so some models will be updated sooner than others.

In other news, smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge (under certain carriers), HTC One M9 (under some carriers) and Motorola X (2014) have already been treated to Android 5.1.1.
