AMD today released a new update to its proprietary graphics driver for Linux-based operating systems, AMDGPU-PRO 17.30, which brings support for Canonical's recently announced Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system.

Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS was lunched about ten days ago as the third and most advanced point release of Canonical's  long-term supported Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system series, featuring the kernel and graphics stacks from the most current Ubuntu release, Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus).

Of course, this means that Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS is using the Linux 4.10 kernel, X.Org Server 1.19.3 display server, as well as the Mesa 17.0 3D graphics library. That's a major update from the kernel and graphics stacks used in Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, so AMD had to update its graphics driver, too, to support the new technologies.

Here's what's new in AMDGPU-PRO 17.30

Apart from adding support for Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS, the AMDGPU-PRO 17.30 graphics driver introduces support for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.9 and CentOS 6.9 operating systems, as well as support for the Radeon RX Vega series of graphics cards.

That's right, you can now use your brand-new Radeon RX Vega GPU on any of the supported GNU/Linux distributions by the AMDGPU-PRO 17.30 graphics driver to play all the latest games. The driver is also supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3, CentOS 7.3, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop/Server 12 SP2.

AMDGPU-PRO 17.30 also addresses various issues reported by users since the previous release, such as display issues on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 that made it go into sleep mode when installing the graphics driver, and a fatal error when attempting to close or exit Houdini 16 3D modeling/animation app.

Issues with the Maya 2016 3D animation/modeling app, Hitman and Rust games, as well as the Unigine Heaven and SPECviewperf 10 benchmark apps were fixed as well in the AMDGPU-PRO 17.30 graphics driver, which you can download right now from the official website, where a list of known issues is also available.
