The moment many of you have been waiting for has arrived

This day is the day many AMD fans waited for for months. AMD Radeon Fury X is finally here with its revolutionary HBM memory stacking tech, and whooping 4096 bit memory bus.

As you already know, and we covered before, Radeon Fury X is designed to compete with Nvidia's top-end GTX 980Ti and Titan X graphic cards. To beat their raw power and core clock and memory clock speeds, AMD made a detour by investing as much as possible in memory efficiency, wide memory channel access and cutting down speed lag by stacking the memory chips on the GPU die instead of all around the PCB.

Although at start the HBM memory size is underwhelming, only 4GB, their GDDR5 format and power efficient layout is expected to win over its rivals strictly by smart design instead pure force.

The Radeon R9 Fury X comes with a factory-fitted liquid cooling system, similar to the R9 295X2 which promises gaming temperatures locked under 60 degrees Celsius and a noise output of 32 dB.

Coming with the new long-awaited Fiji 28nm GPU, the Fury offers 4096 stream processors, 256 TMU, 64 ROPs and a massive 4096-bit HBM interface packing a staggering 512 GB/s memory bandwidth.

Clocked at 1050 MHz, the card has the same power figure as the last top-tier, the R9 290X at 275W, even though the new card has 8.5 TFLOPS compared to R9 295X2 at 4.84 TFLOPS.

Expectations are still high

Although expected to bring Nvidia's latest GTX 980Ti to an inevitable defeat, preliminary performance comparisons leaks on benchmarking sites showed that it defeats Nvidia only marginally on specific tests and scenarios, while Nvidia's 6 and 12 gigabytes of raw power, core clocked three times faster dominated the general tests.

However, honesty compels us to recognize the actual revolutionary aspect of the HBM technology found on Fury X that is bound to grow even more and allow more transistor and more powerful GPUs to be installed on the same compact PCB.

Sold at $650, the Radeon R9 Fury X can now be found in some parts of the world, the card will be worldwide available in the following weeks.
