Supports RHEL 7.2 and 6.8, Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 14.04.4 LTS

AMD released a new version of its new AMDGPU-PRO graphics driver for GNU/Linux distributions, bringing support for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system, besides Ubuntu.

Designed for newer AMD Radeon GPUs, the AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 driver comes two and a half months after the release of the AMDGPU-PRO 16.30 update, and it adds support for 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.8 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 operating systems, as well as Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 14.04.4 LTS  systems.

Apart from supporting the RedHat Enterprise Linux 7.2 and 6.8 operating systems, the AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 driver comes with support for the AMD Radeon R9 M485X, AMD Radeon R7 M465, AMD Radeon R7 M460, AMD Radeon R7 M445, and AMD Radeon R7 M440 GPUs, as well as FirePro features like EDID management and 30-bit color support.

AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 also includes the same features that were available for GNU/Linux users in previous releases, such as basic display and power management support, KMS (Kernel Mode Setting) and ADF (Atomic Display Framework) support, Vulkan API 1.0, OpenGL 4.5, GLX 1.4, OpenCL 1.2, VDPAU APIs, and a GPL-compliant kernel module.

The AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 drive supports only the AMD Radeon RX 480, RX 470, X 460, R9 Fury X, R9 Fury, R9 Nano, R9 390X, R9 390, R9 380X, R9 380, R9 M395X, R9 M385, R9 M380, R9 M270X, R9 360, R9 290X, R9 290, R9 285, R9 M485X, R7 M465, R7 M460, R7 M445, R7 M440, R7 260X, and R7 260 graphics cards.

You can download AMDGPU-PRO 16.40 for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) and Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (Trusty Tahr) systems, as well as RedHat Enterprise Linux 7.2 and 6.8, right now through our website, but please note that there are some known issues, such as occasional hangs with Company of Heroes 2 or X.Org Server fails on AMD hybrid PCs.
