To celebrate Kindle's 10th anniversary, Amazon today unveiled the all-new Kindle e-book reader device that the company calls Kindle Oasis, which is the first of its kind to come with a waterproof design.

As Amazon likes to say, Kindle Oasis is unlike any Kindle you've ever experienced, and somehow that's true because the device is also the first to boast a larger, high-resolution screen with touch, 7 inches, and 300 PPI. The bigger, glare-free screen also allows for up to 30% more words to be displayed per page, which translates to fewer page turns.

"Kindle Oasis tapers to an ultrathin 3.4mm display featuring our strongest cover glass and a sleek, anodized aluminum back," says Amazon on the product's page. "Now with an adaptive front light, Kindle Oasis automatically adjusts the brightness of the display based on your surroundings."

Water resistant for about an hour, built-in Audible

To protect Kindle Oasis' gorgeous 7" display, Amazon made a waterproof design that's IPX8 rated, which means that you'll be able to read in the rain or even underwater for about an hour, but no more than two meters deep. Of course, you can also drop it into a hot tub, a bathtub, or even in the pool.

Another cool new feature of the all-new Kindle Oasis e-reader is that it comes with built-in Audible support, allowing you to listen to Amazon's library of audiobooks on-the-go. And because there's also a 32GB variant of Kindle Oasis, you can even store more audiobooks on than with any other Kindle model.

An 8GB variant of Kindle Oasis is also available for purchase, and both are available with Graphite or Aluminum back. As expected, Amazon offers the new Kindle only with Wi-Fi or with Wi-Fi and free cellular connectivity. We don't have to mention that the battery will last for weeks, though we have to mention it's price, which starts from $249.99 USD.
