14 DAY TRIAL // Amazon is the latest big name that chose to abandon Windows Phone and concentrate on other platforms, as the company has decided to pull its app from the Windows Store after previously removing it from search results.
The Amazon app will no longer be available starting July 25, and in a statement today, the company explains that it took this decision to remove it because it wasn’t offering the best experience with the service. The statement does leave room for interpretation and gives hope that, at some point in the future, Amazon could release an app specifically targeting Windows 10 Mobile.
“Thanks for reaching out and your interest in the Amazon App for Windows Phone. Regarding your questions below, we cannot comment on our product roadmap. The current Amazon App was built on Windows 8 and it does not provide the most customer obsessed experience for Windows 10. We encourage customers to visit Amazon.com in their mobile browser where they will have access to our newest shopping features and customer experience,” the company is quoted as saying.
There’s hope for a Windows 10 Mobile app
Starting July 25, when the app will be completely pulled from Windows Phone, users still running this platform will have no other option than to turn to their browsers in order to shop from Amazon unless the company prepares a surprise in the meantime.
There are hints that a Windows 10 Mobile or even a universal app for Windows 10 could be released, and that would really make sense, not necessarily because users want it, but because Amazon has always been one of the first companies to bring apps on Windows.
For the moment, however, Amazon is just another important name leaving Windows Phone, and it goes without saying that it’s clearly a big loss for the platform. The lack of apps has always been a problem for Windows Phone, and with a company the size of Amazon pulling its app from the store, this issue is only getting worse.
