New Windows app possibly in the works at Amazon

Amazon is one of the big companies that have decided to pull their apps from the Windows Phone store, leaving users with no other choice than to turn to their browsers in order to shop online, but there’s now hope that another application could be in the works.

Basically, Amazon’s Windows Phone app will continue to work on devices where it’s already installed until August 15, but users who stick with Microsoft’s mobile platform might not have to wait too long before a replacement is provided.

In a statement for WinBeta, Amazon’s support team explains that a new app is in the works at the company, and it could launch in the near future. No specifics have been provided, though.

“As many customers are asking for an improved Amazon App for Windows Phone, we have to launch [a] new app. Please rest assured our team is working on the new app. It may take some time but we will definitely get the new app soon. We’ll soon be retiring the App you currently have on your Windows Phone, meaning its contents will no longer be updated. You’ll still have access to the App until 15 August 2016. I’m sorry for any disappointment this may cause,” the statement reads.

A different support team has reportedly confirmed that “we are already working on it and we will directly update you via email once it’s complete.”

While this is good news for those who want to shop on Amazon using a Windows phone, there’s something really important everyone should have in mind when hearing about such plans.

First of all, the statement comes from the support team, and as is the case with Microsoft and the reports pointing to the arrival of Snapchat on Windows Phone, there are big chances that these comments are inaccurate because support staff doesn’t usually have access to such info.

Second of all, if Amazon is indeed working on a new app for Windows phones, it might only run on Windows 10 Mobile, as the company could thus ship a universal app and target both PCs and smartphones at the same time.

An official statement from Amazon would certainly help set things straight in this case, so we’ve reached out to the company to see if this information can be confirmed or denied at this moment.
