Apparently, Samsung intends to offer customers “the best features of its Galaxy lineup” and a “groundbreaking design” that would make them forget about the Galaxy Note 7 debacle. The report also confirms some of the phones’ rumored features, together with new details.

Fingerprint sensor to open and close apps

The standard Galaxy S8 will have a 5.8-inch curved Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels and 18:5:9 aspect ratio, very similar to the recently announced LG G6. The main difference between the two models will the Galaxy S8+’s larger display of 6.2 inches.

An iris scanner and fingerprint sensor will also be incorporated on the new phones, the latter will offer users the option to open and close applications just by placing their fingers on the back of the phone. But it remains to be seen how accessible the sensor really is, considering the phones’ rather large sizes.

Users will also get access to Samsung’s Secure Folder for storing sensitive information, apps and files. The app is available on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and was featured on the Galaxy Note 7. IP68 certification will keep the phone protected from dust and water for 30 minutes and up to 1.5 meters.

Internal specs and details about accessories revealed

Information about the rear camera on the two phones has been rather scarce, but this report sheds light on the sensor. Samsung didn’t increase megapixel resolution, but rather retained the 12MP 1.4µm pixel size sensor with f/1.7 aperture, dual-pixel autofocus, OIS and 4k recording. Samsung also incorporated laser autofocus and increased the front camera resolution to 8MP with f/1.7 aperture. The company also added autofocus mechanism for capturing content in dynamic situations.

When it comes to internal hardware, the two phones will run a 2.5GHz octa-core Exynos 8895 processor or Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform, depending on the market. RAM capacity will reach 4GB, but some previous reports say that it might be bumped to 6GB in China.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ will come with 64GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage and a microSD slot for increasing the memory to 256GB. Other than that, the phones will have a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual-band gigabit Wi-Fi, LTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

Battery capacity should reach 3,000mAh on the standard model and 3,500mAh on the larger variant, with wireless charging available for both devices. Moreover, stereo speakers will be available on the new phones.

Samsung to introduce Guard S8

Rumored pricing for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ was confirmed; the standard model will have a price of €799, while the larger S8+ will cost €899. Samsung will also offer official accessories, like the DeX Station in multiple colors to match S8 variants. Pricing for all official Galaxy S8 accessories leaked yesterday, confirming that the DeX Station would cost €149.99.

To regain consumer trust in certain key markets, Samsung intends to offer Samsung Guard S8 service program for repairing phones in just two hours. The company will also offer official warranty extension in some countries and a one-time free replacement of the screen, together with a Remote Support option.

While this new report covers almost everything about the new Galaxy S8 and S8+, the information will receive official confirmation only when the two phones are finally announced on March 29 in New York and London.
