This is what a retail copy of Windows 10 could look like

Windows 10 will launch in just two weeks, and while many of you will get the new operating system free of charge as a regular download because you're on Windows 7 or 8.1 and you qualify for the free upgrade, some people will purchase it from the store.

For these customers, Microsoft has prepared the regular retail box, which, according to German publication WinFuture, will look exactly like in the gallery below.

For the moment, nobody can confirm whether these photos are real or not, but chances are that the Windows 10 retail box will indeed look just like that, especially because the simple packaging somehow makes sense for Microsoft as it perfectly brings in the spotlight the key changes the company made in the OS.

Start menu for the win

If these photos are real, then the Home edition will get a blue box, while Pro will be purple. But what's more important is that they both feature the new hero wallpaper and provide buyers with a glimpse into the new desktop.

Needless to say, the one feature that makes the cover is the Start menu, which in Windows 10 received plenty of updates and which Microsoft is now using to promote the operating system.

The Start menu is brought back in Windows 10, after Microsoft removed it in Windows 8 completely, but with a twist: it now features live tiles and modern features, mixed with some traditional options that are still available in Windows 7.

For those wondering how much Windows 10 will cost, the blue box bringing you Windows 10 Home will be available for $119.99 in the United States, whereas the Pro edition will cost $199.99. Pricing will be exactly the same as for Windows 8 in the rest of the markets, Microsoft guarantees, but full details will be announced on July 29, during the Windows 10 launch event.
