At least three new phones might be announced on February 27

Sony is just one of the many major players in the smartphone industry that plan to launch new products later this month at Mobile World Congress (MWC). However, the Japanese company is one of the few that will bring not one or two devices, but at least three new smartphones.

Unfortunately, the one device that matters most, Sony's flagship smartphone, might not be officially unveiled at MWC 2017 since Samsung has exclusivity over Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor until late April.

Sony might not like the fact that its flagship smartphone won't pack the most powerful processor on the market, so it could delay the launch of the Xperia XZ successor for a few months.

Obviously, there's also the chance that Sony will choose to include the next best chipset for mobile devices, the Snapdragon 821, inside its flagship.

Regardless, it looks like a press photo of the alleged Xperia XZ successor has just leaked online courtesy to China's Weibo social network and PriceRaja. The flagship doesn't seem too different from its predecessor, at least that's the impression we got seeing the front side of the phone.

It's got pretty thin bezels on all sides and no physical control keys. The date shown on the display suggests the smartphone will be officially introduced on February 27.

Not the flagship we've been waiting for

The only downside is the fact that, judging by the specs rumored to come inside, this doesn't look like a flagship handset at all. It's more of a high-end smartphone that is meant to fill in the spot for Sony's true flagship that will be announced later on.

The smartphone is said to pack an octa-core MediaTek Helio P20 processor, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory (expandable via microSD card).

Also, Sony's Xperia handset is supposed to sport a 5-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution, a 23-megapixel rear-facing camera, and an impressive 16-megapixel camera in the front.

We can safely assume the smartphone will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box. Also, a 3,000 mAh battery will be included as well.
