Apple’s new 4-inch iPhone, which is very likely to be called “SE,” is already in production, according to sources familiar with the matter, ahead of the official unveiling in mid-March.

And although Apple has struggled to keep everything secret, we can now have a look at the front panel of the device as well thanks to photos that got leaked via French website NWE (Google Translate version).

While the screen doesn’t show the final design of the phone, it does indicate some of the features that might or might not be available on the 4-inch model. And it all starts with 3D Touch.

Introduced with iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, 3D Touch will remain a signature feature of the top-of-the-range models, so the new SE won’t have it.

No 3D Touch on the iPhone SE

Living proof is the comparison photo with the iPhone 6s (which you can see in the gallery after the jump) and that reveals that the 4-inch device won’t have the protective metal plates that were installed by Apple on the more expensive model.

This means that 3D Touch support will most likely be unavailable on iPhone SE, but that’s not such a big surprise given the fact that Apple does need to remove some features in order to make it a bit more affordable.

According to the same source, well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has his very own share of information regarding the new iPhone SE. It appears that the device will come with a 12-megapixel camera which is very likely to be exactly the same as the one on the current iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Furthermore, the analyst claims that there will be two different iPhone SE storage versions, with 16 GB and 64 GB, respectively.

A 1642 mAh battery will be offered and Apple will claim that it can even last for two full days (that’s not surprising at all, though, given the fact that the iPhone 6s features a 1715 mAh battery and, according to official figures, can go up to 14 hours of talking in 3G mode). Most likely, the device will probably offer one day to one day and a half of battery life.

As far as pricing is concerned, the smaller iPhone is likely to cost approximately $400 (380 EUR) for the 16 GB version. Expect it to be unveiled in mid-March, alongside a new iPad and Apple Watch bands.
