Samsung is expected to have a tough quarter

Back in March, Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge with bells and whistles. The flagships impressed a lot of onlookers because Samsung had finally improved on the key aspects customers had been drawing attention to for quite some time.

For starters, the new devices were finally built using premium materials, worthy of flagship devices such as these. More than that, Samsung’s over-cluttered TouchWiz interface on the Galaxy S6 has been watered down in order to ensure things ran smoothly on board.

Samsung has been betting big on the Galaxy S6, hoping the new re-designed flagship would make up for the lousy Galaxy S5 sales it recorded last year. As you probably heard before, the Galaxy S5 was considered one of the company’s major flops.

While the initial feedback for the two flagships was highly encouraging, a new report coming out of Business Korea claims that things are looking pretty grim for the company during the current quarter, as industry insiders say Galaxy S6 sales will fall short of expectations.

Apple's new iPhones will burn through Samsung's sales

The thing is, we’re getting near a very important event for mobile enthusiasts: this autumn, Apple is bound to unveil its latest iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, which will certainly stir consumers’ attention away from what Samsung has to offer.

Unless the Korean tech giant can really wow us with the new Galaxy Note 5 phablet, which is poised to make an appearance at IFA 2015 in Berlin.

The current report predicts that Samsung Electronics’ IT and mobile division will post an operating profit between $2.76 / €2.47 billion and $3.03 / €2.71 billion this quarter, which means a 22% increase quarter over quarter, but also a 24% decrease year over year.

These low scores are attributed to modest sales of the Galaxy S6, so Samsung’s only hope to redeem itself this year lies with the Galaxy Note 5.

We’ve have also been telling you that Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S6 (edge) Plus model in the near future, which should arrive with a larger display, Snapdragon 808 out of the box, and a heftier 3,000 mAh battery.
