New leak allegedly shows an audio connector on S9

Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launched last year with one huge controversial change, as the Cupertino-based tech giant decided to give up on the headphone jack entirely.

While at first it seemed to be a change that all the other major phone makers would embrace sooner or later, it seems to be rather later in the case of Samsung, as the South Koreans are likely to stick with the 3.5mm audio connector for at least one more generation of flagship devices.

The upcoming Galaxy S9 series is very likely to come with the headphone jack, if this new leak is real. Allegedly showing a USB-C flex cable that would be used on the Samsung Galaxy S9, the photo suggests the old-school jack would make the cut and survive the new trend started by Apple last year.

It goes without saying this is by no means an official confirmation of Samsung not ditching the headphone connector, it’s another sign this could very well be the case, coming after several other similar leaks and tidbits of information provided by reliable sources.

Note 9 introducing bigger changes

On the other hand, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Samsung will never give up on the headphone jack. The South Korean firm will launch two different flagships next year, as it follows: Galaxy S9 in February or March and the Note 9 in the summer, most likely in August.

As far as the latter is concerned, Samsung is reportedly preparing more big changes, including an eagerly anticipated fingerprint sensor integrated into the screen, though it’s not yet known if this technology is ready or not.

At first glance, Samsung wants the Note 9 to come with more exclusive features as compared to the Galaxy S9, and if this is the case, the phablet could also be the first model to make the switch from the headphone jack to USB Type-C.

All of this is just speculation for the time being, so a healthy dose of skepticism is required, at least for a few more weeks as we’re getting very close to the moment the S9 should see daylight.
