Maybe Samsung can learn something from this policy

Getting the latest updates for your Android phone quickly, even if you have an official Google device like the Pixel 2, is a gamble. But now Google seems to have fixed that and users should be able to receive updates as soon as possible.

Google prides itself on the fact that the Android users are getting constant security updates and various upgrades for the operating systems. Well, at least that’s the case for Google built phones. But even for those devices, the updates don’t usually arrive as soon as possible for users, and that can be a little bit annoying.

According to a DroidLife report, Google had a system in place that provides updates over an extended period of times. That’s understandable for a couple of big reasons. First of all, sending the updates to everyone, all at once, can put a strain on the servers.

Secondly, pushing the updates slowly and not all at once allowed Google to stop the process if something went wrong. It’s likely that Google is now much better at figuring out and testing their own updates, and the server problem has been solved.

Get the latest updates now

The system application that’s supposed to provide users with the system updates is called Google Play services, but it wasn’t doing its job. Now, the latest version of the app, just released today, 12.2.18, seems to have fixed the update issue.

So, get your app updated, or you can download the APK from Softpedia. Alternatively, you can enroll in the Beta for Google Play services to make sure that you’re always up to date. After you get that package installed, just for into Settings > System > System Update and hit that Check for Update button. It should work like a charm every time an upgrade is released.

Finally, we don’t have to wait until Google decides to randomly choose users for their security updates, two weeks after the official release.
