People that bought the latest Alienware laptops might apparently get a free upgrade to their machines if new devices and components get introduced in the recent Alienware 15, 17 and 18 series.

If people bought a new laptop exactly before a new processor line was supposed to be introduced, they might be left aside by the wave of new products that will include the said new CPU, rendering his effectively brand-new device with old tech completely outdated.

Alienware saw this coming and promised their clients a free update to the latest CPUs that might arrive 30 days after their original August 27 launch of their newest laptops.

In other words, if you got yourself a new Alienware that only holds a last-gen Haswell this August, you'll get a free update to the upcoming Skylake this September when Intel predicts it will increase the number of CPUs available on the market. As long there isn't a delay of the new CPU line to arrive on your laptop, probably all recent Alienware customers will get their much-expected Skylake next month.

Alienware owner will never have to feel sidelined when new CPUs arrive

However, it's a mystery what sort of Skylake models the new Alienwares will carry. In their launch day, most Alienware laptops feature models ranging from Core i7-4720HQ to the Core i7-4870HQ. Not bad for today's gaming requirements, but from what we've seen from similar ASUS and Acer gaming notebooks, it's clear that they'll most likely be receiving the Skylake-H i7-6700HQ CPU that is also one of Acer's Predator gaming laptop.

Intel did actually manage to put an overclockable chip in gaming laptops, the quad-core Intel Core i7-6820HK, but you'll need the monstrous liquid-cooling appendix strapped on the back of your laptop to cool that off, like ASUS' ROG GX700 has.

Overall, this is good news indeed for Alienware owners that will never have to feel outdated when Predator and ROG will start showing off with their brand-new Skylake-equipped laptops.

Alienware owners will probably have to take their machines to a Dell retailer or dealer and have their mainboard changed altogether with their CPU since the new processor works on an entirely new socket than the old Haswell one.
