At least five modular handsets might be unveiled soon

There have been rumors in the last couple of days that Alcatel will launch five new smartphones at Mobile World Congress (MWC) later this month. However, Alcatel did not confirm any press conference until today, so we didn't know if and when these devices would be unveiled.

According to GSMArena, Alcatel fans won't have to wait too long for the launch event, as the company has just confirmed its MWC 2017 press conference will take place on February 27.

Unfortunately, not many things are known about what Alcatel plans to reveal later this month, but we do have a couple of details that leaked last week.

The most important thing is the fact that Alcatel has decided to embrace the modular design that hasn't been so popular among customers. The LG G5, a flagship based on the same modular design, didn't sell well at all.

Is Alcatel going to "Light Up" the crowd with its new lineup of phones?

On a more positive note, Motorola's Moto Z seems to be a bit more successful, so Alcatel has this one chance to make it right. At least a couple, if not all, of the smartphones to be announced by Alcatel will feature this so-called modular design.

One of the modules meant for these Alcatel smartphones feature some LEDs that will glow in different colors with the music you're listening. The information somewhat comes in line with Alcatel's press invitation that has the tag line “Light Up.”

Another piece of information that leaked recently concerns one of the Alcatel smartphones that might be announced on February 27. It's supposed to be powered by an octa-core MediaTek processor.

Also, it's rumored to pack a 13-megapixel camera on the back with dual-LED flash. The smartphone will be among the most expensive launched by Alcatel at MWC 2017 and is said to cost around €320 outright in Europe.
