Despite its past, Alcatel isn’t among the most easily recognized smartphone brands in the world, but it does manufacture phones that offer a good balance between price and specs. Now, it seems that the company has launched a new successor to the Flash 2, the Flash Plus 2.

The original Flash Plus was introduced by the TCL-owned company back in 2014, and since then Alcatel OneTouch has been rebranded to simply Alcatel. The company recently launched the Flash Plus 2 on its website and it’s expected to launch another device, the OneTouch Pop 4, this year.

The mid-range phone comes with a 5.5-inch OGS display panel and 1080p resolution, 16-degree viewing angles and 1000:1 contrast ratio. The display has a pixel density of 400ppi and is tweaked for better performance in low-light conditions. It will come with a 3000mAh battery and Fast Charging support.

It will be powered by a MediaTek’s Helio P10 (MT6755) chip, with incorporated 64-bit, octa-core CPU clocked at 2.0GHz. The SoC also integrates a Mali-T860MP2 GPU clocked at 700 MHz. It comes in two variants, depending on the RAM and internal storage capacity.

The base model has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage while the premium one comes with 3GB of RAM and double internal storage. Both devices have microSD slots for expanding the memory up to 128GB.

The Flash Plus 2 comes in two color variants

Rear camera capacity is set to reach 13MP with f/2.0 aperture, dual LED flash and a 76.5-degree wide-angle 5P lens. It will also include Phase Detection Auto Focus.

The front camera has a 5MP sensor and 1.12μm pixel size with f/2.2 aperture. The wide-angle lens is set to reach 84 degrees. The phone will also come with a fingerprint scanner and will support Wi-Fi 820.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS. It will come with Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box.

The Flash Plus 2 will be available in Luna Silver and Venus Gold color variants and will be launched first in the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Monaco, and Thailand. Prices reach $160 (€141) for the base version of 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The premium model comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, as well as a higher price of $190 (€168).
