14 DAY TRIAL // Alcatel is going for the affordable segment of the market with three new devices announced at Mobile World Congress 2016: POP 4, POP 4+ and POP 4S.
All three are said to feature “slim body and fully laminated black crystal,” but the most interesting thing about them is that they bring some nifty features to the masses.
First of all, they will ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box. Sadly, Alcatel hasn't yet confirmed when exactly these smartphones will hit shelves and for how much.
Until more details on pricing and availability are shared, let's take a look at what these devices have to offer regarding specs.
Alcatel POP 4 comes with a standard 5-inch HD (720p) display on the outside while on in the inside there's a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card slot.
At the back, the phone packs an 8-megapixel photo snapper with LED flash, whereas in the front there's a secondary LED-assisted 5-megapixel selfie camera. The phone is powered by a 2,500 mAh battery and includes LTE support.
Decent specs for entry-level and mid-range segment
Next in line, the POP 4+ sports a slightly larger 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports the same HD (720p) resolution. However, the smartphone comes equipped with a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor and 1.5GB RAM.
It also includes 16GB of storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card slot. The same 8-megapixel camera is featured on the back, along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera in the front with LED flash.
The POP 4+ is powered by a similar 2,500 mAh battery and includes 4G LTE support as well. As many of you have probably noticed, it's got the same specs of the Alcatel POP, but in a larger body.
The last of the trio of affordable smartphones, Alcatel POP 4S has a 5.5-inch display with full HD (1080p) resolution. It comes with a much better 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with phase detection autofocus, dual-tone LED flash and f/2.0 aperture.
There's also a secondary 5-megapixel selfie snapper in the front. On the inside, the POP 4S packs a 1.8GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 64GB via microSD card slot.
Unlike the other two Alcatel smartphones, the POP 4S embeds a fingerprint scanner and a larger 2,960 mAh battery with quick charging technology. It also supports faster LTE Cat.6 speeds.
