IDOL 4 Pro to go on sale in Europe as rebranded IDOL 4S

Alcatel has announced at MWC 2017 that its IDOL 4S Windows phone will go on sale in Europe by June, after previously making this device exclusively available at T-Mobile in the United States.

The phone, however, won’t be called Alcatel IDOL 4S on the Old Continent, but Alcatel IDOL 4 Pro, even though they are practically identical devices with the exact same specifications and look.

Unfortunately, the IDOL 4 Pro won’t be an affordable phone, as Alcatel plans to sell it for €599 without a contract, which brings it in line with other high-end devices running Android and iOS. And given the dropping customer appeal of Windows phones, this high price is very likely to lead to quite a small number of buyers for the new Alcatel.

Same technical specifications as the IDOL 4S

As mentioned, the European and American versions on the phone have the same technical specifications, so buyers on the Old Continent will get the same 5.5-inch AMOLED display and Qualcomm Snapdragon processor coupled with 4GB of RAM.

In terms of storage, the phone features 64GB built-in capacity with microSD card support for up to an extra 128GB. The phone features a 12-megapixel camera with Sony IMX230 sensor, but also an 8-megapixel front-facing unit with wide-angle lens for selfies and video calls.

The same 3,000 mAh battery is also being offered, and so is the USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer. The phone supports quick charging, so you should get up to 80 percent battery power in approximately 45 minutes.

We’ve already reviewed the Alcatel IDOL 4S and we described it as the most beautiful Windows phone to date, so if you still want to stick with Microsoft’s collapsing mobile platform, this is undoubtedly a device that’s worth a shot. In case you’re wondering, there’s no way to get Android running on it just yet, though an Android version is also available with lower specs.
