14 DAY TRIAL // The same Saudi teenagers who hacked Mark Zuckerberg's Twitter and Pinterest profiles have made another high-profile victim, and this time, it's Twitter's ex-CEO, Dick Costolo.
A Recode reporter spotted the hacking on Sunday afternoon, and the hackers managed to post three tweets on Costolo's Twitter timeline.
The tweets did not contain obscene content and seemed to be only simple-worded messages, with the hackers testing their access to the account.
Hackers gained access to his Pinterest profile and cross-posted to Twitter
Costolo soon regained access to his account, and Twitter suspended the hackers' Twitter profiles once again after they had already banned their original accounts after the Zuckerberg hacks.
In a subsequent tweet, Costolo thanked his followers for the heads up and said that the hackers managed to post to his account without compromising his Twitter profile.
The Twitter ex-CEO said the hackers got access to "an old account from another service that cross posted to Twitter."
From the links included in the tweets, it appears that the hackers, known as OurMine, succeeded in accessing Costolo's Pinterest account. Recode confirmed this when they took a screenshot of the same message from one of the tweets, found inside a Pinterest post.
LinkedIn data dump at fault again?
When OurMine hacked Zuckerberg, they also gained access to his Pinterest profile and said that they discovered his account's password in the LinkedIn data dump. OurMine did not reveal how they accessed Costolo's Pinterest account.
The hackers are from Saudi Arabia and have a reputation for hacking social media accounts. Before hacking Costolo and Zuckerberg, the hackers also gained control of musician Deadmau5's Soundcloud account.
Outside social engineering, the hackers have also carried out DDoS extortion attacks and even stolen user credentials from the DayZ game community forums.
