Just last week Apple announced that its customers would finally be able to pay for content in the App Store, iTunes, and Apple Music using their PayPal account, and today Samsung announce partnership to allow its users to pay via PayPal, too.

This competition between Apple and Samsung is good for users, and it now looks like all Samsung Pay users will be able to use PayPal as a payment method for purchasing content in-app, in-store, and online. This partnership between Samsung and PayPal is also good news for merchants, who will be able to use the Braintree Direct PayPal service to accept Samsung Pay as a payment method for in-app and online purchases.

"Customers will be able to use their Samsung Pay to access and use their PayPal wallet, letting them make a payment in millions of stores," said Samsung in their press announcement. "Users simply add their PayPal account to Samsung Pay, and can then spend the balance anywhere Samsung Pay is accepted. Additionally, users will continue to benefit from Samsung Pay’s unique value-added services, including gift cards, membership and loyalty cards."

PayPal will be first available for all Samsung Pay users in the United States

Samsung said that it would be gradually rolling out PayPal support, first to all Samsung Pay users in the United States, and then to other countries. Users won't have to do anything, just make sure they have the latest updates installed on their Samsung devices to receive PayPal support and be able to use their virtual wallet that's attached to their credit or debit card for online and offline payment transactions at millions of merchants where Samsung Pay is accepted.

Samsung Pay is known as one of the most widely-accepted mobile payment platforms on the market, not to mention very secure, built with three levels of security, and it's also compatible with both Samsung’s patented Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology and with Near Field Communication (NFC). This strategic partnership between PayPal and Samsung will also benefit Samsung Pay customers who are looking for an easier online checkout , via PayPal’s Braintree.
