14 DAY TRIAL // Alcatel is one of the companies that are betting big on Windows devices, so at the MWC 2017 show in Barcelona, it took the wraps off a 2-in-1 called PLUS 12 specifically addressed to “the busy person who needs to get things done.”
The PLUS 12 is based on the now-traditional 2-in-1 approach, coming with a detachable keyboard that allows the device to play a double role, either as a tablet or a laptop when the keyboard is disconnected or connected, respectively.
The tablet itself weighs 596 grams, while the keyboard adds another 365 grams, so it’s pretty lightweight, no matter if you want to use it as a tablet or as a laptop.
It comes with an 11.6-inch IPS full HD display and features 4GB RAM with 64GB storage space. The processor is the Intel Celeron N3350, which isn’t entirely a monster in terms of performance, but it does its job very well, especially for the typical activities of today’s users, including browsing, emails, and working with documents.
Innovative keyboard
The keyboard comes with LTE, but also with a fingerprint reader that can be used with Windows Hello for secure authentication to Windows 10. There are multiple ports, including USB-C, USB-A, micro-HDMI and audio jack, as well as a 5-megapixel front camera, dual speakers, and microphone.
The very same keyboard can also be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot that supports up to 15 devices, contributing to what Alcatel describes as “the perfect office on the go.”
“As a leading device manufacturer for connected tablets, we are convinced that productive devices will be more and more connected to cellular networks. Alcatel has developed the PLUS range, a series of high-performing connected Windows 10 2-in-1s with 4G LTE inside, so you’ll always be connected and productive wherever you go,” Alcatel says in a statement that focuses a lot on productivity, just like partner Microsoft.
There are no details right now as to the pricing and release date, but Alcatel says the PLUS 12 would launch with Windows 10 Redstone 2 (Creators Update), so there’s a good chance that it hits the shelves after Microsoft takes the wraps off the new OS update. The Creators Update is expected in April.
