The Galaxy J2 leaked for the first time about two months ago when the smartphone was spotted in a benchmark's database.

Word about the affordable smartphone will continue to emerge in the coming weeks, though the official release date hasn't been confirmed.

Surprisingly, Samsung announced today the upcoming availability of the Galaxy J2 in India. While it's no surprise that the smartphone has been launched in India, the price of the handset seems a bit too steep for this market.

According to a new report, Samsung will sell the Galaxy J2 in India for Rs 8,490 outright, which is about $130 or €115.

The most interesting part about the Galaxy J2 is the fact that it offers both dual-SIM and 4G LTE support and that it comes preloaded with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

It comes with “ultra data saving mode”

Moving on to specs, Samsung's affordable smartphone is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Exynos 3475 processor, a Mali-T720 graphics processing unit and 1GB of RAM.

Although it comes with only 8GB of storage inside, users can further expand storage up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

The Galaxy J2 sports a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution. It also features a 5-megapixel camera on the back with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel camera in the front for selfies and video calls.

We also know the smartphone is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery and offer various connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0, FM Radio and GPS with AGPS support and GLONASS.

“The Galaxy J2 is an affordable 4G handset which has, for the first time, an ultra data saving mode. This is the first handset from Samsung with the new data saving facility developed in India. We feel India is ready for 4G. It is our focus and is critical for Samsung,” said Samsung India Director of Mobile Business, Manu Sharma.
