New version of Flash Player released with security patches

Adobe has just published an updated version of Flash Player, and although no details are available at this point, the new version is likely to be specifically focused on security.

Adobe Flash Player 26.0.0.126 was published on the company’s servers only a few minutes ago, and this is why no release notes are available, though the timing of the launch indicates that it’s all about fixing security issues with this new version.

Just like Microsoft, Adobe publishes security updates for its software on the second Tuesday of each month, and this is what is happening today as well. Both Microsoft and Adobe are projected to release security updates for their products, and although the rollout typically begins at 10 AM PT, updated versions of Adobe software show up on the company’s download servers a few hours earlier.

Flash Player updates critical

Updating Windows and Flash Player is without a doubt the first thing users should do today, especially given the most recent waves of cyberattacks that targeted unpatched systems.

Furthermore, Adobe’s Flash Player is among the most vulnerable pieces of software right now, and statistics have shown that a growing number of exploit kits included vulnerabilities in this client runtime environment. Many of these vulnerabilities have already been fixed by Adobe, but updates need to be installed in order for attacks to be blocked.

Full details about this new release will be published later today and we’ll update the article with the official changelog to let you know what’s been patched in this version. In the meantime, users should keep in mind that a major patching cycle should begin in just a few hours, and reboots will be required to complete installation.

It goes without saying that all users are recommended to install this new version as soon as possible, and you can head over to the Windows section of Softpedia to download Flash Player right now.
