Adobe has released a new update to the Creative Cloud (CC) client for Mac after the previous update package was caught accidentally deleting the first folder on the root drive.

The issue was discovered last week after Backblaze's support staff started getting complaints from their users. Backblaze is a backup solution for Mac, which operates via a folder named ".bzvol" on the root drive, where it keeps a list of directories it needs to scan and later back up.

For some Macs, this folder was the first one listed in alphabetical order, even if it was hidden from view.

Adobe CC glitch affected Mac users only

A glitch in the Adobe Creative Cloud Mac Client version 3.5.0.206 deleted the first file in alphabetical order. In the case of Backblaze customers, this immediately crashed the client, which relied on the presence of this folder to know what to back up.

Support staff eventually narrowed down the issue and discovered that all of the people reporting the issue had just minutes before they updated their Adobe CC installation.

Backblaze filed a bug with Adobe, who on the same day pulled the Mac client update to prevent any further damage.

To aid Adobe and prevent any further damage from being done to its customers, Backblaze also took the issue into its own hands and released an update that would create a dummy folder named ".aBackblaze" and that would appear above the standard ".bzvol" directory.

Issue caused havoc for non-Backblaze users as well

In some cases where the Backblaze client was not present, users found themselves with system errors after Adobe CC was deleting crucial folders needed for their Mac's normal mode of operation.

Over the weekend, Adobe released Adobe Creative Cloud version 3.5.1.209 to address this issue, for both Mac and Windows (just to make sure Windows users were also safe).

For most users, Adobe CC is configured to self-update, and the new patch may be already installed on their computers. For the others, they can get the clients from Adobe's servers (Mac, Windows), or from one of Softpedia's mirrors (Mac, Windows).
