The world’s number one ad blockers arrive on Windows 10

AdBlock and AdBlock Plus browser extensions have just debuted with Microsoft Edge support, finally allowing users on Windows 10 who want to stick with the default browser to install them too.

At this point, Microsoft Edge does not support extensions in the stable versions of Windows 10, so only members of the Windows Insider program running preview builds can install the new ad blockers. Microsoft is currently testing this feature and planning to release it in the upcoming Anniversary Update coming in the summer.

In order to install these new extensions, all you need to do is to open the store links for AdBlock and AdBlock Plus and click the install button. If you are on the latest builds of Windows 10, everything should complete successfully. Then simply go over to the extensions menu in Edge and you will be prompted to add new ad blockers.

Feature coming for retail users in July

It goes without saying that such additions of the Windows 10 feature arsenal will boost the appeal of Microsoft Edge browser, especially because the app was launched with just a basic feature package back in July 2015 when the new OS hit the shelves.

But thanks to the Insider program, Microsoft is working to improve the browser and add new features, so the upcoming Anniversary Update will be a significant step in this regard.

Microsoft aims to make Chrome extensions work on Edge with very little changes to the original code, so given the fact that this feature is only supposed to arrive for retail users in July, the company hopes that the majority of developers would start porting their extensions to the Windows 10 browser in the remaining months.

Edge browser is exclusive to Windows 10 users and this is definitely one reason why it still can’t grow significantly in market share just yet, but Microsoft expects the app to become more popular as adoption of the new operating system is improving as well.
