The beta period of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was a very enjoyable period for fans of the series, and it seems that publisher Activision and developer Treyarch also benefited from it, with the two companies announcing that the testing period was the biggest one in the history of the PlayStation 4.

The involved companies are not saying exactly how many gamers took part, but it seems that the number was solid enough to allow them to test the infrastructure that will support the first-person shooter when it fully launches.

Rob Kostich, the senior vice president in charge of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 at Activision, says that the company is satisfied with the reaction of fans and wants them to be prepared for the extra content that the full version of the title will offer.

The beta set records when it comes to the number of downloads, the number of matches played, and the hours that the community spent playing.

Mark Lamia, studio head of Treyarch, adds, "We can’t thank them all enough for participating and providing us with invaluable feedback and data that Treyarch is already hard at work incorporating into the game for launch. Our goal is to deliver the best Day One experience possible and this beta - along with the input from our passionate community of fans - has helped position us to do just that."

Fans are currently testing the shooter on the Xbox One and the PC

The beta period for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on the PlayStation 4 was extended by one day, and gamers also received access to a new map and mode during the period.

The shooter is at the moment in beta on the other two major platforms on which it will be launched, and the process is mostly running smoothly, after problems with the keys affected gamers for about one full day.

Treyarch has also said that it has improved the single-player campaign for its title, with a focus on a more coherent narrative and more emotion.

The company is also offering a cooperative campaign called Shadows of Evil, which will ask four gamers to work together in a noir version of the '40s to take out waves of undead.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will be launched on November 6, and in addition to the platforms on which it got a beta, it is also arriving on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
