Acer's Android smartphones are not that popular among customers, but that might change since the company is readying an exceptional selfie-centric smartphone that is likely to be unveiled very soon.

The so-called Acer S59 has been recently spotted at GFXBench where the device's main features have been revealed.

Obviously, the smartphone will be launched on the market under a different name and there's always the chance that some features might be changed in the final build.

However, as it is now, the S59 seems like a more than decent mid-range Android smartphone, but Acer needs to price it competitively, otherwise it won't sell that well.

First of all, the S59 will be Acer's first smartphone to ship with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box.

Even though the device sports a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution, Acer S59 is equipped with a powerful octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor clocked at 1.3GHz.

The phone's CPU is paired with a Mali-T720 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM. Keep in mind that some of the specs reported in the benchmark by the tested prototype might be wrong, but not by much.

Furthermore, the S59 is confirmed to pack 16GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 64GB).

4K video support for both cameras is a plus

But the strong point of Acer's mid-range smartphone is the 13-megapixel camera in the front, which is meant to take perfect selfies.

On top of that, the S59 boasts a similar 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus and LED flash. It's also worth mentioning that both 13-megapixel cameras can capture 4K video.

That's all the S59's specs revealed in benchmark, but we expect Acer to officially introduce the smartphone next month or during IFA 2015 trade fair.
