Acer is trying to make its presence felt on the US market

A few days ago, we brought you info about two upcoming Acer smartphones that will probably be unveiled at IFA 2015, the Liquid Z630 and Liquid Z540 models.

These are budget handsets running Android Lollipop out of the box and are probably going to be sold in Europe. But while we are waiting for these models to be unveiled in Berlin, Acer has launched two other affordable smartphones on the US market, in the form of the Acer Jade Liquid Z and Acer Liquid Z410.

Acer is not too popular as a smartphone company in US, as it has a better chance of capitalizing profit off its Chromebook models. Nevertheless, the company is trying hard to make it handset-wise too, and here are its latest efforts.

Acer Liquid Jade Z

This is the more advanced of the two models being launched in the US. The handset features a 5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution and draws life from a quad-core MediaTek MT6732 chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, working hand in hand with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot).

Acer also makes available another version, which takes advantage of 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. On the imaging front, there’s a 13MP primary camera sitting on the back, while selfie shooting activities are left to be handled by a 5MP snapper.

Everything is kept alive and working by a 2,300 mAh battery. The phone runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, which is quite disappointing even for a budget phone like this one, given the fact that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is on its way.

The Acer Liquid Z will go on sale for $229 / €203 for the 1GB of RAM version and $249 / €221 for the 2GB model. It seems that Acer went a little overboard with pricing here, as there are numerous alternatives that come with a lot better specs.

Take the Motorola Moto G (third-gen), for example. The phone runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, has a Snapdragon 410 under the hood and is water-resistant. The 16GB version costs $219 / €194.

Acer Liquid Z410

This entry-level phone makes a debut on the US market with a 4.5-inch FWVGA display (854 x 480 pixel resolution) and a quad-core MediaTek MT6732M chipset clocked at 1.3GHz, plus either 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage or 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Other specs include a 5MP primary shooter and a 2MP selfie snapper, plus a 2,000 mAh battery. Like the other smartphone, the Liquid Z410 runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box.

Users are expected to pay $129 / €114 for the 1GB of RAM version and $149 / €132 for the one with 2GB of RAM.

The Acer Liquid Z is already available for purchase, while the Liquid Z410 will make its way into retail locations this September.
