Microsoft has just released a Windows 10 Mobile update for devices that are still on Threshold 2, pushing OS version number to 10586.682.

This release is a little bit unexpected, especially because the full focus is now on the Anniversary Update and Redstone 2 (Creators Update) due in early 2017, but given the fact that there still are many phones that are running Threshold 2, it’s certainly welcomed.

Unsurprisingly, Microsoft hasn’t provided a changelog for this new update, so it’s most likely focused on improving performance and fixing bugs in the operating system.

And while this update might not seem such a big deal at first glance given the fact that it’s aimed at devices running Windows 10 Mobile Threshold 2, it’s actually quite critical for those users whose devices were blocked in the Anniversary Update and who enrolled in the Windows Insider program only to receive the Windows 10 Mobile bits.

85 percent of users are already on Anniversary Update

According to stats, there are quite many of them, and we all know how much criticism the whole thing has led to, especially due to the fact that Microsoft originally promised to support all Windows Phone devices in Windows 10 Mobile.

AdDuplex data for the month of October 2016 indicated that no less than 84.9 percent of the users on Windows 10 Mobile were already running version 1607 (Anniversary Update), while 5.6 percent of them switched to Redstone 2 builds as part of the Windows Insider program. Only 9.5 percent of the users were still on version 1511.

“More than 90 percent of Windows 10 Mobile users are now on version 1607 or newer. Developers targeting Windows 10 Mobile can probably start leaving 1511 users behind to take advantage of the new OS capabilities.”

Users who want to download the new update can look in phone update on their devices, but make sure your phone is charged or at least plugged in before starting the process.
