Just a little nudge forward by AOC with AMD's FreeSync

FreeSync monitors are hitting the markets in droves since AMD has launched its latest Radeon high-end video cards this summer at E3.

Shortly after Samsung launched its two FreeSync dedicated monitors, the U24E590D and U28E590D models, AOC followed suit. However, AOCs offer is a bit more modest than Samsung's UHD FreeSync monitors.

Offering a 24" and a 27" full HD resolution monitors, based on TN-film panels with refresh rates of up to 144 Hz and response times of 1ms, the two are equipped with AMDs FreeSync technology that synchronizes the display's refresh rate with the GPU's output frame-rate for a stutter-free display output.

The 24" G2460PF and the 27" G2770PF monitors offer viewing angles of 170°/160°; (H/V) and up to 350 cd/m² maximum brightness on the G2460PF and up to 300 cd/m² on the G2770PF. Display inputs are identical on both monitors, they include a DisplayPort 1.2a, built for FreeSync, dual-link DVI and D-Sub (VGA).

Should you care?

How relevant these two new monitors from AOC will be in the ever-growing world of FreeSync/G-Sync UHD monitors? Probably not much, as the UHD 4K monitors already have prices getting lower and lower and some of them, as the BenQ X-series, already offer UHD FreeSync, while most of them already sell for around $500 which is only $50 more than AOC's offer.

This is indeed a low-to-mid-end offer just to serve AMD’s new tech and to capitalize its new gaming tech without investing in UHD, and what is now considered the gaming's future. AOC does have top-tier UHD monitors like the U34 series that offer true 4K graphics for image professionals for top-dollars. Not breaking the full-HD limit for its gaming line, but instead bring FreeSync for old-gen technology (VGA!), looks more like a desperate measure to catch a trend instead of actually investing in the future.

Pricewise, buyers will most likely save $50 and get themselves some UHD FreeSync or G-Sync monitors and step into the 4K entertainment entirely.

According to TechPowerUp, the G2460PF is expected to be priced around $350, while the G2770PF is expected to go for $450.
