After announcing the so-called WinPhone 5.0 at the IFA 2017 show earlier this year, the company is now planning to start mass production, but it needs support from the community in this regard.
As a result, the firm will kick off a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, with WindowsLatest reporting that the target goal is 500,000 Euros. Without a doubt, that’s an optimistic target, and while it’s nearly impossible to reach it, the parent company has prepared a series of rewards for those who step in and donate for the device.
First and foremost, supporters will receive the WinPhone 5.0 at a special price of just 209 Euros, which is down from the original price of 249 Euros. If it’s worth the money is up to each and every one of the supporters to decide, but again, it’s hard to believe there are too many people out who are willing to make the WinPhone 5.0 happen and donate a couple of hundred dollars in this regard.
WinPhone 5.0 technical specs
The specs of the phone aren’t very convincing either. The device comes with a 5.0-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1270x720 and protected by Gorilla Glass 3, which is already two generations behind the existing flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S8. As for the processor, it’s a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
A 13-megapixel camera will be offered as well, and so will a 2250 mAh non-removable battery that should provide autonomy for at least 24 hours.
Of course, for hardcore Windows phone fans, seeing support from pretty much any company is good news, but given the current state of the platform, even if the 500,000 Euro goal is reached, it’s still impossible to believe that the phone would be successful.
