The new shooter is being developed for PC and consoles

A new Alien game is in the works after FoxNext Games bought Cold Iron Studios, tasking them with a new project.

Even if you are up to speed with who’s who in the gaming world, you might not have heard of FoxNext Games until now, and with good reason. It’s been around for just one year, and it’s a new entity owned by 20th Century Fox.

The movies studios have finally realized that there is a lot of money to be made in the gaming industry and they want a big chunk of it. Since they also have a ton of licenses, they can start building their own games. Until now, Fox was just selling the rights to publishers, but the real money is in actually making the games.

Can't go wrong with Aliens, right?

The mysticism of Aliens was first enhanced by a couple of great games made by non-other than Monolith, but since then the Alien franchise has been going pretty much downhill, with some notable exceptions.

Combining the Alien and Predator franchises seemed like the perfect idea and a match made in heaven. Decades later after the launch of Alien, people just want to play a game in which they want both to survive and be a badass, with no extra toppings.

With the purchase of Cold Iron Studios, it looks like the Alien franchise might be in the right hands. First of all, it’s going to be a shooter for PC and consoles. Secondly, the people at Cold Iron Studios have been working on other significant projects such as Bioshock Infinite, Neverwinter, and even Metroid Prime 3.

"Cold Iron adds a whole dimension of game development and play to our arsenal: long play-session MMOs targeted to PC and console gamers. The kinds of games Cold Iron develops will enable us to deeply explore the worlds of our franchises, starting with the Alien universe,” said Aaron Loeb, the president of FoxNext Games.

It’s unclear for now if the studio was already working or if they just started. In any case, it’s unlikely we’ll see something playable in the next couple of years.
