Video game developer Zynga is trying to set up a real money gambling operation in the United States in order to generate more revenue as the popularity of its traditional social game franchises continues to decline.

Apparently, the company is aiming to get up and running in Nevada and the application it has filled is just the first stop in the long process towards getting a license.

Barry Cottle, the chief revenue officer at Zynga, says, “The broader US market is an opportunity that’s further out on the horizon based on legislative developments, but we are preparing for a regulated market.”

Since it had a falling out with social network Facebook Zynga has struggled to increase the player numbers for its core titles.

The company has also seen a number of high profile developers leave after public disputes with the management.
