In mid-September 2009, when it introduced what was referred to as the next-generation of digital entertainment, Microsoft revealed that users of Zune HD devices would be able to enjoy 3D gaming content right on their digital media players. Still, on September 15th, 2009, when the Redmond company made Zune HD available to the public, it noted that customers would have to exercise their patience when it came down to actually playing 3D games until later in 2009. Well, the wait is over. A number of titles are now available for download via Zune Marketplace, and users of Zune HD devices can start enjoying the gaming capabilities that the software giant has built into their devices.

“Your Zune HD is ready to play,” revealed Rob Greenlee from the Zune team. “We just got a slew of new games available to download for your Zune HD. New titles include Project Gotham Racing, Audiosurf Tilt, Vans SK8: Pool Service, Lucky Lanes Bowling, Piano, and Checkers. Check’em out, go to the Zune Marketplace and download them in the Apps section.”

Microsoft has had to update Zune HD in order to make the device able to play nice with 3D games. Approximately two years after the devices in the latest iteration of the Zune product lineup hit the shelves, the Redmond company kicked up a notch the firmware for the digital media players. Advertised little by the software giant, a Zune HD update pushed the firmware for the devices up to version 4.3. Following the delivery of 3D games support, gaming content for Zune HD were also made available for download via the Zune marketplace.

“Zune HD firmware update: Today we released the v4.3 firmware update for Zune HD players; this update adds support for upcoming 3d games and applications, as well as an auto-suggest feature for better text input, and other minor improvements. Enjoy!” Microsoft stated.
