Many HTPCs are available for order, but there are those that would like to make their own machine, for whom Zotac has created the A75-ITX WiFi small form factor motherboard.

Zotac's product portfolio is one that, though it sticks to just a small part of the IT market, is, nonetheless, fairly diverse.

It deals in graphics adapters, motherboards, small form factor systems (Zbox nettops or HTPCs) and other such things.

What the company unveiled this once is a motherboard intended for the market of home-theater personal computers.

After all, all those pre-made HTPCs need platforms, as do users who like to do things themselves.

The newcomer features the mini-ITX form factor and is called A75-ITX WiFi, the name obviously meaning that AMD chips of the A-Series are supported.

More specifically, the A75 chipset from Advanced Micro Devices can hold any A8, A6 and A4 APU (accelerated processing unit), as well as E2-series chips.

As users remember, these units have integrated Radeon HD 6000 graphics, so multimedia performance is assured in all cases.

"Our goal at ZOTAC is to pack as many features and capabilities into the smallest form factor possible. The ZOTAC A75-ITX WiFi is no different - we've packed it with features and expansion capabilities typical of larger ATX offerings," said Carsten Berger, marketing director, ZOTAC International.

Zotac did not specify the newcomer's price tag, but did provide the specifications sheet, which includes a pair of DDR3-1866 memory slots (up to 8 GB RAM), 5.1 channel audio, HDMI, DVI, 8 USB 3.0 connectors and a PCI Express x16 slot, four SATA 6.0 Gbps connectors and, of course, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi.

For those who might wonder at how the eight USB 3.0 connectors are laid out, six are on the back panel, while two are pin headers, likely for case-included ports.
